Yew Sin-Ee Yi cruise into second round of German Open

KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 12 Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi got off to a winning start at the German Open, powering past French duo Eloi Adam-Leo Rossi on Tuesday.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi, the top seeds, took just 33 minutes to chalk up a 21-13, 21-14 win over the world No. 93 in Mulheim.

The Malaysian professional pair will face world No. 35 Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard of Denmark on Thursday.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi must justify their top billing and win the Super 300 tournament this week to keep their already slim Paris Olympic qualification hopes alive.

The German Open marks the first of their gruelling four back-to-back tournament schedule, including the French Open, All England and Swiss Open over the next three weeks.

Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien also advanced in the women's doubles after beating Serena Au Yeong-Katharina Hochmeir of Austria 21-9, 21-13.

They face a difficult last-16 encounter against the Stoeva sisters, Gabriella and Stefani, of Bulgaria next.
