Candlelight vigil for abducted pastor, wife pleas for release

SHAH ALAM: The wife of abducted pastor Raymond Koh, has made a tearful plea to his captors to release her husband who has been missing since Feb 13.

Susanna Liew, married to Koh for 33 years, said it has been 21 days since he disappeared.

Koh was believed to have been abducted in broad daylight at Jalan SS4B/10 in Kelana Jaya and his family have not heard received any news about him since.

“To the abductors, please release him. He is a good man. He helps the poor, the marginalised and the needy. He has been giving out free food to the homeless in Kuala Lumpur. He has been helping those infected by HIV/AIDS. He started a football club for the youth and played with them.

“We are very sad that we do not know who abducted him, why and for what reasons. We appeal to the authorities to do a thorough investigation. We pray for his safety and quick release. For those who have information of his whereabouts or had seen the abduction, please come forward to help with the police investigation.

“I hope to God that he will be safe and we will meet him again. I want to see Malaysia as a safe and peaceful country where all different races live together which is what my husband would desire,” said Liew at a candlelight vigil in Section 9 tonight.

More than 500 well-wishers turned up for the vigil which started at 8.30pm.

They had gathered at the Section 9 commercial centre instead of the originally planned entrance of the Selangor police contingent.

The change of venue was due to road closures and tight security leading into the Selangor police contingent and well-wishers were barred from making their way on foot there.

Those who attended the vigil expressed their worry and concern over the safety and whereabouts of Koh, who was believed to have been abducted from his car by masked men.

The crowd also observed a minute of silence and dispersed peacefully at about 9.40pm.

Among those present were Selangor state legislative speaker Hannah Yeoh, Andalas state assemblyman Dr Xavier Jayakumar, Parit Buntar MP Datuk Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu.

The Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had late last month said a special task force led by Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat has been set up to investigate the case.

Koh’s family have offered a reward of RM10,000 for information on the incident. The reward was then raised to RM100,000.
