Pastor Koh's wife gives emotional testimony in High Court

KUALA LUMPUR: A sombre atmosphere hung over the High Court here today as Pastor Raymond Koh's wife testified about her husband's disappearance seven years ago.

Susanna Liew Sow Yoke, unable to hold back her tears during the proceedings, said her family endured significant suffering and remained traumatised by the incident.

"We are very sad and disappointed that these seven years have been such a long time, and the authorities have not been transparent with their investigation.

"I want justice.

"I want to know my husband's whereabouts and the truth about his disappearance... what really happened to him.

"I suffered panic attacks and I still do... my children also suffered as they have depression and need to go for counselling," she said.

The 67-year-old woman said this when testifying in her suit to compel the police to reveal her husband's whereabouts before judicial commissioner Su Tiang Joo.

During examination-in-chief by her lawyer, Datuk Jerald Gomez, Liew stated that her family cannot find closure in the grieving process or bury the body if her husband is no longer alive.

"They (the authorities) must investigate the case in good faith with due diligence.

"They cannot make any excuses such as lack of infrastructure or staff to escape their obligation to investigate.

"I took up this case to seek the truth and hope some justice will prevail.

"Our family wants to get the justice that we deserve," she said.

The trial continues.

On April 3, 2019, the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) revealed that two missing persons, Koh and a social activist Amri Che Mat, were victims of an enforced disappearance.

Its panel chairman Datuk Mah Weng Kwai said the panel was of the considered view that the enforced disappearance of the duo was carried out by agents of the state namely the Special Branch of Bukit Aman.

Amri, who was the founder of a Perlis non-governmental organisation (NGO) Hope, reportedly went missing after he had gone out from his home in Kangar at about 11.30pm on Nov 24, 2016.

Amri was driving a Toyota Fortuner when it was "boxed in" at the material time. About an hour later, Amri's vehicle was found abandoned at a construction site at Bukit Chabang in Kangar.

Koh was last seen by his wife on Feb 13, 2017 at about 10.15am.

It was reported that Koh was abducted by a group of men along Jalan SS4B/10 in Petaling Jaya while on his way to a friend's house.
