Msian family in Pyongyang stopped from taking flight home

KUALA LUMPUR: A MALAYSIAN family was prevented from boarding a flight to leave North Korea yesterday.

A Facebook post by one Kamil Ghazali claimed that his cousin, Iza Karmila Ramli, her husband and their three children were among Malaysians who were stopped by North Korean authorities during an attempt to catch a flight to return to Malaysia.

“My cousin, Iza Karmila, her husband, and three children were among Malaysian citizens who were prevented from leaving North Korea.

“They got stopped right before boarding an aircraft to return home,” he said in a Facebook post titled “Tahanan” (prisoner) yesterday.

Kamil, who according to his social media account works as a real estate agent, asked his friends and Malaysians to pray for the safety of his cousin and her family in North Korea.

“May they be protected by Allah and return home safely.”

It is learnt that Iza Karmila is the wife of Mohd Nor Azrin Md Zain, a counsellor with the Malaysian embassy in Pyongyang.

However, the Facebook post did not specify when Iza Karmila and her family tried to board the flight.

Attempts to get further comment from Kamil last night were futile, as he said his cousin’s family had asked him not to make any further statement.
