MAS staff pay tribute to victims of MH370 on tragedy's 3rd anniversary

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Airline System Berhad (MAS) together with Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) today held a private remembrance ceremony at KL International Airport (KLIA) in memory of MH370.

The event was attended by the airline’s employees as well as family members of the 13 staff onboard, the national carrier said in a statement.

The gathering of the Malaysia Airlines family was led by MAB Chairman, Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof, who was joined by MAB’s Chief Executive Officer, Peter Bellew, members of the board and staff across all divisions of the company.

The event honoured the memory of the 13 staff and crew members with a prayer, a minute of silence as well as a video tribute to former colleagues.

“On the release of the Interim Statement by the Bureau of Air Accident Investigation (BSKU) today, MAS would like to thank the investigation team for all the work it has done thus far,” it said.

The national carrier said it has worked very closely with the Malaysian Safety Investigation team and given its full cooperation.

“As always, we stand guided by any decision made by all three governments involved in the investigation and search.”

MAS said that it remains hopeful that the search for MH370 will resume should the investigation team become aware of any credible lead that warrants this step being taken.

“MAS would like to re-state its commitment to keep the next-of-kin informed of developments and information updates relating to the flight MH370 tragedy.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragedy,” it said.

On March 8, 2014, MH370 went missing while flying over the South China Sea about an hour after taking off from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 12.41am.

The Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with 227 passengers and 12 crew was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6.30am on the same day.
