Zahid receives courtesy call from Yemeni deputy PM

PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today received a courtesy call from Yemen Deputy Prime Minister Abdulmalik Abdul Jalil Al-Mekhlafi.

Zahid said the meeting served as a platform to deliberate on regional and global issues affecting the interests of the two nations.

“At the international level, Malaysia, via the United Nations platform, has condemned the attacks made on the public and on infrastructure such as schools and hospitals in Yemen.

“Malaysia has also contributed US$100,000 (RM445,949) in humanitarian aid during the OIC foreign ministers extraordinary meeting in Jeddah in 2015," he said in a statement issued after the meeting, which lasted almost an hour.

Zahid also voiced Malaysia's full support for the efforts by Yemen special envoy to the UN in trying to find solutions to the conflict in Yemen.

He said that as of March 1, there are 5,779 Yemeni students studying in local and private higher learning institutions in Malaysia.
