Eleven subjects in local universities ranked top 50 in world

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s higher education standards are improving, with 11 subjects taught in local universities ranked top 50 in the world.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, in congratulating the achievement, tweeted a Higher Education Ministry photo of the recently announced 2017 QS World University Ranking by Subject.

“Our higher education standards are improving, 11 subjects are in the top 50 in the world!

“Congratulations and keep it up #SoaringUpwards!”

In the photo he shared, Universiti Malaya’s (UM) Electrical and Electronic Engineering subject was ranked 23rd. Others include UM’s Development Studies (26) Mechanical Engineering (33), Chemical Engineering (38) and Education (41).

Meanwhile, Universiti Sains Malaysia had four of its subjects listed, including Hospitality and Leisure Management (32), Mineral and Mining (35), Chemical Engineering (38) and Environmental Science (49).

The International Islamic University Malaysia bagged 46th placing through its Theology and Religious studies.

The only Malaysian private institution listed, Taylor’s University, had their Hospitality and Leisure Management placed in the 29th position.
