MALACCA: Two friends in the centre of a controversial land deal in Kelantan have come forward to deny any wrongdoings and exonerated a DAP lawmaker said to have been involved in the deal.
Agricultural dealer Wong Chi Sing, 54 and Chua Soon Teck, 29, admitted to have acted as the middlemen in the deal struck in 2012, while Ayer Keroh assemblyman Khoo Poay Tiong had merely vouched the existence of the project in Kelantan.
They denied that Khoo was using his influence to persuade buyers into the deal as he was never involved nor paid any commission.
Wong, who presented the documents of the land deal to reporters at the Malacca DAP office here, today clarified that the deal was legitimate and not a scam.
He added that after successfully selling the plot of land, the company owners then sought his help to resell the land.
Goh Leong San (Independent-Duyong) and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron (BN-Sungai Udang) had alleged that Khoo had a hand in the dubious land deal, which involved a 202-hectare plot of land in a forest reserve in Kelantan, during the state legislative assembly last week.
Wong and Chua added that they have appointed a lawyer and will take legal action against those slandering their good names.
Khoo, who was also present, challenged Idris, Goh and other Barisan Nasional assemblymen, to repeat the allegations outside of the state assembly.
“They are using the state assembly’s immunity to make allegations against DAP,” he added.
On the mass resignation of 182 DAP members, Khoo said he would comment when party’s central leadership receive the official resignation letters.
“I hope that they will spend the month to reconsider their decision (to resign) and not get overly emotional,” said Khoo.
