Stop with 'nonsensical' proposals, DAP told

JOHOR BARU: Johor Umno has reminded DAP leaders to stop provoking unity government coalition party members with "nonsensical" proposals.

Earlier, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming proposed that a new Chinese village in Selangor be nominated as a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation World Heritage site.

Senator Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman described Nga's proposal as "unreasonable" and lacking tangible benefits for the nation's prosperity and stability.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, on the other hand, denied having any knowledge about Nga's proposal.

"Nga's ridiculous proposals have exacerbated racial sensitivities and could threaten Malaysia's racial unity," Halim said.

Halim, who is also Umno state secretary, urged Nga and leaders of the unity government coalition to stop indulging in divisive rhetoric that benefited any one party and instead, safeguard the nation's tradition of unity in diversity.

"Nga should be focusing on his portfolio as a minister… he should be focusing on things like strengthening the credibility of local authorities and pressing municipal issues," Halim said.

In the past, Halim had taken a swipe at former DAP leaders when they questioned the Pardons Board's decision to reduce former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's sentence.
