SEKOLAH Kebangsaan Sri Tanjung Papat 2, which is built on stilts in Jalan Buli Sim Sim, Sandakan, Sabah, is in danger of collapsing as it is near a beach.
A parent, who wanted to be known only as Abdul Rahim, said the safety of the 310 pupils and 37 staff was being compromised.

The students and staff of SK Sri Tanjung Papat 2 will temporarily be moved to the vacant building next to SK Sri Tanjung Papat I, after the wooden structure was declared unsafe.
“They will be moved by the end of this month,” said Tanjung Papat community development leader Wong Chee Keat.
Previously, the four-storey building was occupied by SK Sri Tanjung Papat 1, but was left vacant when the school operations moved to a new building.
“The Education Department has given the nod for SK Tanjung Papat 2 to be temporarily moved to the vacant building at SK Tanjung Papat 1.
“Tanjung Papat assemblyman Datuk Seri Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, who is also deputy chief minister, will use funding from his assemblyman’s allocation to refurbish the vacant building before students and staff start their classes,” added Wong.
The wooden structure, which SK Tanjung Papat 2 occupies, is on the seafront and a recent inspection carried out by the authorities found the structure was no longer safe.
