SPM 2016: 406 Kedah candidates score straight As

JITRA: A total of 406 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates in Kedah scored straight As, with 34 of them scoring A+s.

Kedah Education Department director Datuk Azuyah Hassan said although the total number of straight A students dropped from 446 candidates in 2015, Kedah recorded an improvement in the overall state grade average (GPN) from 5.23 in 2015, to 5.20 last year.

Azuyah said a total of 34,150 candidates sat for the examination in the state last year.

"Four candidates scored straight A+s in all subjects," she said.

Two of the candidates, Khoo Yi Xuan and Chong Terng Yaw, from SMK Keat Hwa, scored 11A+s, she added.

Azuyah said Sekolah Menengah Sultan Abdul Halim was named the best school in Kedah, with a school average grade (GPS) of 2.04, followed by SMK Sultanah Asma and SBP Integrasi Kubang Pasu.

She said based on the overall results, schools in urban areas showed improvement compared to those in rural areas.
