Swim turns tragic, Form One boy drowns in mishap

BESUT: A 13-year-old boy who went missing while swimming with friends at Kampung Padang Bual’s river today, has been found.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said the boy, believed to have drowned, was a Form One student of SMK Bukit Payong in Pasir Akar.

When swimming with his friends, Ahmad Ieman Danish Muhamad was suddenly swept away by a strong current in the incident which took place at around 5pm today.

Zamri said his friends who failed to save him then quickly alerted the villagers nearby.

“The Pasir Akar police station received a call about the incident at 5.25pm and a team of policemen was deployed to the scene,” he said.

The search and rescue team comprising several parties including villagers found the boy’s body at about 6.58pm.

“We were informed that the body was found by rescuers about 100 metres away from the spot he was last seen,” he said.

Zamri said the body was sent to the Besut Hospital for a post-mortem and the case was being classified as sudden death.
