Wrong-way 19-year-old Penang driver charged with drug-taking [VIDEO]

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A 19-year-old woman who drove against traffic flow along the North-South Expressway (NSE) on Tuesday, causing a multi-vehicle accident which killed one, claimed trial at the magistrate’s court here today for administering drugs to herself.

Ng Pei Ven was charged under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act for administering drugs into the body.

She faces up to two years in jail, or a fine of up to RM5,000, or both.

The charge was read out to her in Mandarin before magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap.

Jamaliah allowed bail at RM5,000, with two sureties, and ordered Ng to report to the Seberang Perai Tengah police headquarters once a week.

She also fixed May 12 for mention.

Prosecuting office Assistant Superintendent Md Azman Kadir prosecuted, while Ng was unrepresented.

Ng is believed to have been high on amphetamines and drunk while driving her car at high speed against the flow of traffic along the NSE, after the Sungai Dua toll on mainland Butterworth, before triggering a collision involving four cars and one motorcycle at 7.50am.

Her Proton Gen 2 had first struck a Perodua Kelisa, driven by Mohamad Fandi Rosli, 26, which led to a chain reaction of collisions.

Fandi died at the scene due to severe head and bodily injuries.

Ng and the drivers of four other vehicles suffered minor injuries.
