M'sia grouped with Japan, England, for Sudirman Cup in May

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia were today drawn alongside Japan and England in Group 1C for the Sudirman Cup in the Gold Coast, Australia, on May 21-28.

Following the draw ceremony at the Doubletree Hotel here, BA of Malaysia (BAM) acting president Tan Sri Mohamed Al Amin Abd Majid said: "We don't want to say it's an easy draw, but we are satisfied.

"We are ranked as the fifth best team, so we have a chance of doing well."

Favourites and 10-time champions China are in Group 1A, with Hong Kong and Thailand.

In Group 1B, South Korea are together with Taiwan and Russia, while Group 1D has 2016 Thomas Cup champions Denmark, Indonesia and India.

Also present at the draw ceremony on Friday were Badminton World Federation (BWF) president Poul Erik Hoyer and BAM technical director Morten Frost.
