Thunderstorm wreaks traffic havoc in Klang Valley

KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists can expect Friday traffic to be worse today due to the heavy rain in Klang Valley earlier.

The evening thunderstorm has left several roads including the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) near Bandar Tasik Selatan and Kesas Highway near Sri Petaling inundated by floodwaters.

On MRR2, traffic in both directions is slow moving and on Kesas, the exit at Sri Petaling has been flooded. Traffic on Federal Highway is also at a crawl in both directions.

A Twitter user Fiqq_Black posted a video at 5.20pm, with a caption “At MRR2, a lot of cars were stuck. The road is only passable for 4x4 trucks and lorries.”

Traffic is almost at standstill now as more vehicles hit the road as the masses head home.

It was also reported that several roads, including Jalan Maarof, Jalan Bangsar and parts of Jalan Sultan Ismail were also flooded but still passable.

As of 6pm, traffic on most major roads remained congested although the rain stopped at about 5pm.
