(Football) Westwood, Penang, part ways after poor M-League showing

KUALA LUMPUR: Super League side Penang mutually terminated the contract of their coach, Ashley Westwood, today following a spate of poor results in the M-League.

"The FA of Penang (FAP) and Westwood met and discussed the direction of the team. Westwood agreed on terms to part ways," said FAP president and team manager Zairil Khir Johari in a statement.

"Assistant coach Darren Read will take charge of the team until we find a new coach.

"We thank Westwood for his contributions and efforts to improve the team,” Zairil added.

Penang are currently last in the Super League standing with only two points after eight matches. They were also ousted by Negri Sembilan in the FA Cup second round recently.

Westwood, who was signed for two seasons by FAP late last year, was a former Manchester United academy trainee.
