Chef Wan appointed adjunct professor at UUM's STHEM

SINTOK: Celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, popularly known as Chef Wan, was appointed as an adjunct professor with the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Environmental Management (STHEM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).

The renowned chef personally accepted his letter of appointment from chairman of the UUM Board of Directors, Tan Sri Siti Sa'adiah Sheikh Bakir, during UUM’s 33rd Anniversary Celebration today.

Also present at the ceremony was UUM vice-chancellor, Professor Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak.

Chef Wan's two-year appointment took effect on Feb 1.

"I am confident that Chef Wan will be able to share his experience and expertise to help the university achieve academic excellence, especially at STHEM," said Mustafa in his speech.

Chef Wan received his professional chef and hotel management training from the California Culinary Academy; and a Ritz Escoffier Diploma from the Hôtel Ritz Paris.

The prolific personality has been involved in various local and international television cooking shows over the years, including The Kuali Cook Show, Chef Wan and Market Kitchen with the UK’s Food Network.

When met, Chef Wan said he is eager to share his experience and knowledge with lecturers and students at the university.

"I will also work together with UUM to produce an encyclopaedia on traditional Malay cooking," he added.
