JOHOR BARU: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khaled Abu Bakar revealed today that an “important person” and other “new” suspects being sought by police over the murder of Kim Jong-nam are North Korean citizens.
He added that they may be arrested soon to aid in the investigation.
"They are from North Korea and we believe they are involved in the case, and we are looking for them," he told reporters after chairing a meeting on upgrading the police’s central computer crime investigation unit at Le Grandeur Palm Resort, Senai.
Khaled did not divulge further details on the suspects.
A New Straits Times exclusive report on Saturday quoted an expert as saying that a ninth suspect is being sought in investigations over Jong-nam's assassination at klia2 on Feb 13.
Police had previously said there are looking for seven North Koreans to assist their probe.
Meanwhile, Khalid said the North Korean-backed company, International Golden Services Sdn Bhd, which was marketing a military communication systems product under the name ‘Glocom’, is not a company involved in selling firearms.
"There was a misunderstanding related to the North Korea-Malaysia joint-venture company which was set in Malaysia in 2005. The name of the company is not Glocom – Glocom was the name of the product,” he said.
Khaled said International Golden Services was initially known as International Global System Sdn Bhd when it first began operations in 2005.
"The change of name came in early 2012 after the first company closed down and they resumed business again in mid-2012," he said.
"The company closed again on March 15 after obtaining an approval to terminate its operations from the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry," he said.
