Kit Siang says Pas' aim of winning 40 parliamentary seats 'a fantasy'

KUANTAN: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang believes that Pas’ aim of winning at least 40 parliamentary seats in the 14th General Election (GE14) is based more on fantasy than facts.

Lim said said he was unsure where Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang got his confidence from to capture 40 parliamentary seats, wrest Terengganu and Kedah from Barisan Nasional, and become the leading party in Selangor.

Lim said, judging from past election results, Pas only performed well when it was part of an opposition coalition and when it had an electoral pact with other opposition parties.

“Hadi is deluding himself as well as other Pas leaders and supporters if he thinks the party can perform better in GE14 compared to the previous general election if Pas goes it alone. His fantasy of 40 parliamentary seats is a pipe dream at best, a delusion at worst.

“In Selangor, there is the Pas fantasy that the party can on its own secure enough seats in the GE14 to form the Selangor state government. I would be very surprised if Pas could on its own win more than two seats in Selangor," Lim wrote on his blog today, which was also part of his speech during the DAP Bentong “Voters Registration” campaign in Karak, Bentong on Tuesday night.

Lim also questioned what had made Hadi so confident that Pas will be able to perform better than the 27 parliamentary seats it won in the 1999 General Election when it was part of Barisan Alternatif opposition coalition pact.

On his blog, Lim shared figures on the years when Pas achieved its best electoral performance and the number of parliamentary seats won by the party between 1955 and 2013.

He said, in a recent video clip that went viral, Hadi made two important points which was Pas wanted to win control of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perak and Selangor, and secondly win 40 parliamentary seats to have the “king-maker” role to determine the next federal government.
