Buggy mechanic drowns retrieving bag from golf club's lake

SUNGAI BULOH: A buggy mechanic drowned while trying to retrieve a shoe bag, belong to a golfer, floating on a golf club’s lake Wednesday morning.

It is understood that Rizzuan Nazri, 38, a mechanic at the club, had gone down to the lakeside when he was informed of a faulty buggy, however, by the time he arrived, the machine had already plunged into the lake.

He was said to have been helping a golfer recover a bag that was floating on the lake before he was found drowned.

A staff at the golf club, who heard shouts for help, had tried to pull him up, but failed as the victim was stuck in mud. The staff then contacted the fire and rescue department.

Sungai Buloh fire station chief Mohamed Sabri A Shamsudeen said a 21-man rescue team rushed to the scene after received the report at 10.19am.

“The victim was retrieving golf equipment that had fallen together with the buggy before he tried to save the shoe bag.

“He managed to reach the bag, but failed to swim to surface,” he said.

Rizzuan’s remains were retrieved by fire fighters at 11.10am.

The victim was pronounced dead at scene and his body has been sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for next action.
