Sabah policeman seriously injured when car slams into tree

KOTA KINABALU: A marine cop was seriously injured in a road accident at Jalan Lintas off Kepayan here, early this morning.

The 25-year-old local, who serves at the Sabah marine police headquarters here, was driving a Naza Picanto at around 3.20am when he lost control of his car, swerved towards the outer divider and smashed into a tree.

The victim was driving from Austral Park to his home in Putatan when the incident occurred near the Sabah Communications and Multimedia Ministry’s integrated complex.

“He suffered serious injuries, including a broken right leg. There were no passengers in the vehicle,” said district police chief assistant commissioner M Chandra.

The policeman was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for further treatment.

He is not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs while driving, although the weather was fine during the accident.

“Investigations found that he had just completed his duties when the accident happened,” Chandra said.
