Man attempts suicide after stabbing girlfriend

KUCHING: A car accessory salesman stabbed his girlfriend to death out of jealousy before attempting to take his own life early today.

The 25-year-old man however, had a change of heart after he slashed his wrist, and stabbed himself in the abdomen and neck in the suicide bid.

Bleeding profusely, he headed for the 24-hour convenience store located nearby his girlfriend’s rented home to ask for help in the 3.45am incident.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the case came to light when police was informed by the public about an injured man, who was rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here.

“A team was deployed to the hospital to interview the man, who had admitted that he stabbed his girlfriend following a heated argument at her house,” said Dev, in a statement.

The police then went the scene and found the body of the 25-year-old woman, who worked as a shop assistant, sprawled on the mattress on the floor in the room.

Police, said Dev, also found a blood-stained knife close to the body of the victim.

Preliminary investigations revealed that an argument had ensued between the man and his girlfriend after he accused her of having an affair with another man.

The intense argument turned deadly after the man took a knife and stabbed the woman on her neck before attempting to commit suicide.

“The man, who is currently undergoing treatment at SGH, is under arrest,” said Dev, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The case, Dev said, was the 6th murder reported in the state this year, which has all been solved.
