Suspected drug trafficker nabbed in Gemas

SEREMBAN: A suspected drug trafficker threw a bag containing drugs while he was trying to escape detention during 'Ops Tapis' at Palong 7 (F), near Gemas yesterday.

Jempol OCPD, Supt Norzainy Mohd Noor said in the incident at 4.53 am, the 29-year-old suspect was sitting near his motorcycle in an open space near a school before he was detained.

"Police tried to approach the suspect who suddenly fled upon realising the presence of a police team. In his attempt to escape, the suspect was seen to throw an object onto the tarred road near his motorcycle.

"However, the suspect was detained after a struggle. An inspection on the suspect found he had a blister on his left arm following the struggle but there was no illegal item on him," he told Bernama, here today.

Norzainy said police later took him back to the original location where the suspect was first seen.

"A check in front of the suspect then revealed a pink bag with another bag inside it containing a transparent plastic packet filled with what was believed to be heroin weighing 9.14 grams; and another transparent plastic packet containing what was believed to be Syabu weighing 1.58 grams.

"Also seized was a digital weighing machine which was black in colour," he said.

Urine test on the suspect found he was drug positive and had previous criminal record relating to drugs, he added.

Norzainy said police would intensify operations to curb drug abuse in the district with more aggressive operations in Felda areas.-- BERNAMA
