Malacca immigration officer at centre of rape charge released on police bail

MALACCA: An immigration officer at the centre of a rape investigation involving a Thai masseuse, was released on police bail after his three-day remand ended today.

Malacca Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Kamaluddin Kassim said the officer was released after Magistrate Nor Azizah Yusof denied extension on his remand order, applied by the police, at the Alor Gajah court yesterday.

"Investigations are still ongoing on the immigration officer and several witnesses will be called in to have their statements recorded.

"Once our investigation is completed, we will submit the investigation paper to the deputy public prosecutor to obtain advice on the next course of action," he told the New Straits Times today.

On Friday, the 31-year-old immigration officer was arrested by police after a report was lodged by the complainant's sister on Tuesday.

He was remanded for three days on Saturday to facilitate investigations under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

On March 22, it was reported that a Thai masseuse had claimed that she was raped by an immigration officer and forced to perform oral sex on him at the Machap Umboo detention centre.

The 32-year-old masseuse claimed that the sexual assault occurred when her statement was being recorded on March 9.

This was after the masseuse and four other Thai women were arrested on March 7 during a raid at a massage centre in Melaka Raya.

Her 28-year-old sister, who was also arrested but later released on March 20 after she was found to have valid documents, lodged a police report at the Banda Hilir police station on the alleged rape.
