Tuition, childcare centres involved in abuse cases to be blacklisted

NILAI: Tuition and childcare centres involved in child abuse cases will be blacklisted.

Deputy Education Minister II, Datuk Chong Sin Woon said, business licenses of the centres will be revoked.

“The local authorities will ensure that their operations will be stopped immediately,” he said.

Chong was commenting on the abuse case involving a tuition teacher in Johor Baru yesterday. The tuition teacher was reported to have caned her 7-year-old student so hard it had left marks on the boy.

The teacher then tried to erase the marks by applying a heated wok to the boy’s buttocks, leaving him with second-degree burns.

Chong also urged parents to be more alert and look out for early warning signs from their child who might have gone through a traumatic experience at tuition or childcare centres.

“We need to monitor these centres frequently to avoid the same incident from recurring,” he said.
