Tan Sri Md Raus appointed new Chief Justice

KUALA LUMPUR: Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif has been appointed the new Chief Justice of Malaysia.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V consented to the appointment, as per clause (1), Article 122B of the Federal Constitution.

Raus' appointment is on the advice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and following consultations with the Conference of Rulers.

He succeeds Tun Arifin Zakaria, who retired as Chief Justice yesterday.

Sultan Muhammad also consented to the appointment of Chief Judge of Malaya, Tan Sri Zulkeflil Ahmad Makinudin, as Court of Appeal president, replacing Raus.

Federal Court judge Tan Sri Ahmad Maarop was appointed as the new Chief Judge of Malaya.

All the appointments are effective today.
