Memorable photos can still be made even with limited gears, writes Joseph Cheung

RECENTLY, I had the opportunity to travel to Japan and made a short visit to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, one of Tokyo's largest and most popular parks. Although it was still very early in Spring, the view was not disapointing as some Sakura trees were in bloom.

What can you do to capture photographic moments in this beautiful surroundings as a travel photographer? Here's how I made full use of a camera with 70-200mm lens.

1. Beauty among the beauties: Quite an easy target to photograph, captured among the blossoming Sakura flowers.

2. The lone admirer: Doing the reverse, I stand among the trees, watching the same woman admiring the Sakura flowers. There were a lot of people there but I made sure no one was around her before taking the photo.

3. The flowers: It was sunny that day and the flowers looked awesome from any angle. I decided on a backlight with a dark background.

4. The seasonal resident: Narcissus Flycatcher birds are common in spring and summer. Finding them was relatively easy but when capturing a shot, make sure their signature white eye ring is visible.

5. Family: A photographer was sharing photos with her wheelchair-bound mother under a tree. It was a simple frame, quite touching and tells a wonderful story.
