PUTRAJAYA: The Sexual Offences Against Children Bill 2017 will be implemented together with the Child (Amendment) Act 2016 (A1511 Act).
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said this was to ensure that children were protected in a comprehensive manner.
She said the A1511 Act, was enacted to provide specific and comprehensive laws with regards to children which covers several aspects including protection, preservation, restoration, development and participation.
"The ministry will work with the Prime Minister's Department in implementing the Sexual Offences Against Children Bill 2017 once the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V gives his consent.
Rohani also expressed her appreciation for the continued support of MPs on the bill and pointed out that the bill was crucial in addressing sexual crimes affecting children in the country.
The Sexual Offences Against Children Bill 2017 passed by the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, aimed at protecting children from sexual crimes, will be applicable to children under 18 years in line with the A1511 Act.-- BERNAMA
