Introducing six new languages in next year's school curriculum

KUALA LUMPUR: Beginning next year, six new languages will be introduced as a part of a new curriculum for secondary schools, the Parliament heard today.

Deputy Education Minister Senator Datuk Chong Sin Woon said Arabic, Japanese, Korean, German, French and Mandarin had been selected for the curriculum.

“We are preparing the curriculum and module for the six languages now,” he said in reply to a supplementary question from Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff (Pas-Rantau Panjang).

Siti Zailah had asked whether the ministry had any plan to introduce Arabic language in schools as it was also considered an international language.
