KUALA LUMPUR: There will be no action taken against the man who had allegedly abused a dog in Taman Melody, Bandar Kinrara in Puchong.
A video of the man violently assaulting the dog had emerged and gone viral online, prompting several quarters to file police reports on the man’s act of brutality.
Despite that, Serdang district police chief assistant Commissioner Megat Mohd Aminuddin had said that while a member of the public had lodged a report on the perpetrator yesterday, the person is not the dog owner.
Megat said the report will be deemed good for reference purpose only, unless the dog owner files a report.
“Police have been waiting for the dog owner to step forward and lodge a report. There is none. We found out that it’s a stray dog,” he said, when contacted by the New Straits Times today.
“So far, the security guard who witnessed the incident has also not lodged a report,” he said.
Megat said police had informed the Subang Jaya Municipal Council to deal with the stray dog.
However, it is learned that officers from the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia have taken the wounded dog away.
In the 8.50pm incident on Sunday, the man, believed to be in his late 30s and a resident in the housing area was caught on camera, pounding away at the innocent animal.
In the two-minute 43-second footage, the man was seen riding a bicycle with a basket carrying his own pet dog.
He stopped and fell off his bicycle, when a dog at the guardhouse had broken free from its leash and charged at the man.
The man looked enraged and runs up to the guardhouse, catching the dog before proceeding to hit the dog and at one point, even bashing the dog with a motorcycle helmet.
