Najib satisfied with national economic growth

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today expressed satisfaction with the country’s economic growth that showed a very encouraging growth.

He said this mostly involved the trade and export sector, with the value of exports exceeding RM70 billion for the fourth consecutive month since November 2016.

“For February this year, our exports reached RM71.77 billion, an increase of 26.5 per cent compared to last year. All major sectors, namely manufactured goods, mining and agricultural products recorded high growth.

“This is a positive indicator and a boost of confidence to the efforts and policies of the Malaysian government,” he said in his Facebook update tonight.

According to the International Trade and Industry Ministry, Malaysia’s trade in February 2017 rose 27.1 per cent, reaching RM134.83 billion compared to the same month the previous year.

Najib said based on the encouraging growth, research institutes also forecast that the country’s economy would expand further this year from that projected earlier.

Hence the Prime Minister said Malaysians should strive to continue stepping forward in realising a strong economic growth. --Bernama
