No blame game in business, look for options to succeed, says Treasury sec-gen

PUTRAJAYA: Stop blaming others for one's own failure in doing business, Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah said today.

He stated one must look at what they should have done differently to succeed.

"Don't blame the banks (when you don't get financial assistant from them). Check your (business) proposals.

"There are other financing schemes available including Tekun (Tabung Ekonomi Kumpulan Usaha Niaga)," he told more than 600 participants at the 1Malaysia Entrepreneur (1MET) Engagement Day, which aims to connect mentees with mentors for face-to-face interactions.

Irwan also urged Malaysian entrepreneurs to grab business spin-offs from the digital economy landscape with the recent launch of Malaysia's first Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ).

He said local businesses should not just stand on the sidelines hoping for help from those who had succeeded in their businesses.

At the event, Irwan also shared insights that had caught his attention during his recent visit to India with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

One of them was a mentor foundation that was set up to pool mentors in India as part of the country's efforts to churn out more entrepreneurs.

He also said Malaysia and India are looking at more opportunities to strengthen co-operations in terms of entrepreneurial start-ups.
