16 GROs, 49 foreign men, nabbed in raid on illegal Seri Kembangan entertainment outlet

KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen women, believed to be guest relations officers (GROs) were among 66 people hauled up by police during a raid at an entertainment outlet in Taman Pinggiran Putra, Seri Kembangan, today.

Serdang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said of the total, only one man – a local in his 30s who is believed to be the outlet’s caretaker – has been arrested.

“Ops Nada was carried out following complaints from members of the public informing us that the outlet was operating without a licence.

“In the raid, which began at 1.30am, the Crime Investigation Division arrested 30 Indonesian men outside the premises, while the remainder was arrested inside.

“The 16 women, from Indonesia and Vietnam, along with the 49 Indonesian men, were detained for failing to display valid travel documents,” he said.

Megat added that the local man was arrested for operating without a valid licence and hiring workers without a valid permit.
