Couple charged with changing product price tag at Ipoh supermarket

IPOH: A married couple was charged at the magistrate’s court today with ‘cheating’ by changing the price tag of a product they were purchasing at a supermarket here.

The accused – Saddam Abdullah, 57 and Siti Aisyah Abdullah, 56 – who are both unemployed, however pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charge after it was read by the court interpreter before magistrate Siti Salwa Ja'afar.

They were charged with cheating cashier Nur Ayuni Hishammuddin by swapping the price tag of a baby’s mattress from RM233 to RM26.90 at AEON Big Falim here, at 11.17am on Apr 7.

The charge, under Section 417 of the Penal Code for cheating, carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The duo was represented by lawyer Raja Mohd Iskandar Zulkharnian Raja Abdul Malek, while deputy public prosecutor Naidatul Athirah Azman prosecuted.

Siti Salwa granted RM3,500 bail for each, with a surety, and set May 3 for mention.
