Police smash counterfeit RM100 notes syndicate with arrest of three

KUALA LUMPUR: A syndicate specialising in producing fake RM100 notes was busted with the arrest of three people.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif said the trio, including a Thai woman, aged between 30 and 45, were arrested at a budget hotel in Pudu yesterday.

Roy said that on Monday, a parking attendant at the Metro Pudu complex had received a RM100 note, believed to be fake, from a man who stayed in the hotel.

Based on the tip off from the parking attendant, police moved in the next day and arrested the suspect and his girlfriend.

Police found three fake RM100 notes on the man.

Police also picked up another man, who is the syndicate's mastermind. He was caught with 29 similar notes.

Preliminary checks revealed that the first man served as an intermediary between the mastermind and buyers.

Police later raided the mastermind's house in Taman Shamelin in Cheras, here, and seized paraphernalia used to process the fake notes.
