KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded a statement from Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua Kiam Wee today over a video posted on his Facebook page which allegedly contained defamatory remarks against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He arrived at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman at 10.20am and spent about one hour and half with the police. He was accompanied by Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng.
Midway through the questioning, Pua was seen leaving Bukit Aman with several police personnel. He returned about 45 minutes later.
During a press conference later, he said police called him up to record a statement under Section 500 of the Penal Code for criminal defamation.
"The issue was about a live video which I had uploaded on my Facebook page on April 6 regarding Pas' Private Member's Bill to amend the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 and 1Malaysia Development Berhad."
He said police had earlier took him to his office to collect his handphone that was used to record and store the video.
"I have answered the police's questions and they have also seized my handphone to facilitate the investigation," he said.
"Though it was a Facebook live recording, the police said they needed the phone as it was part of their SOP (standard operating procedure)," he said.
Meanwhile, Pua said police should also investigate Najib over the 1MDB issue.
As for the prime minister's suit against him, he said he was aware of the matter and expect to be served within the next few days.
"Yes, I understand there is a civil suit and will be served in one or two days by Najib's lawyers. So far, I have not been served yet." he said.
