MALACCA: Two brothers were jointly-charged with armed robbery of a foreigner at the sessions court here today.
S. Franciss, 21 and S. Seivadass, 24, pleaded “not guilty” when the charge was read to them by a court interpreter before Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.
The brothers, together with another who is still at large, were charged with committing gang robbery, armed with a knife, against Nawshed Ali, from whom they snatched RM500 in cash and a mobile phone.
They committed the alleged offence by the roadside of Jalan Berkat 7 on April 8, this year, at about 5.30pm.
The offence, under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping.
Deputy public prosecutor N. Sivashangari appealed to the court to refuse bail.
But judge Meor Sulaiman fixed bail at RM15,000, with a surety for each of the accused, and fixed May 29 for mention.
Franciss, clad in a blue shirt and Seivadass, clad in a black shirt, were unrepresented.
The brothers pleaded for lower bail, but their request was denied.
