Setapak shooting: Man charged with murder of car repossessor

KUALA LUMPUR: A car repossessor was today charged at the Magistrate's Court for the murder of another car repossessor in Setapak in July, last year.

K. Ram Kumar, 24, was charged with murdering Kandasamy Vathu, 43, with D. Manivannan, 34, and another person still at large, at Jalan Taman Ibukota, Setapak in Wangsa Maju about 3.35pm on July 27, 2016.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death sentence, upon conviction.

No plea was recorded from the unrepresented Ram Kumar.

Magistrate Adira Adnan fixed May 29 for for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor K. Vasugi represented the prosecution.

Oil palm fruit picker Manivannan was charged with murdering Kandasamy on March 28, and will have his case come up for mention and document submission on May 29.

It was reported that Kandasamy was shot dead at a busy intersection near Setapak.

Kandasamy, who was driving a Honda Accord, was shot 16 times in the incident.

He was driving along the road alone when four men on two motorcycles approached his car.

The pillion riders, with their helmets still on, got off the motorcycles and fired shots in the direction of the driver.

The gunmen executed their victim in cold blood and fled on the waiting motorcycles.
