Foreign worker stabbed to death on Bintulu plantation

MIRI: An Indonesian man was found dead in an oil palm plantation in Sebauh, Bintulu, yesterday.

The victim, identified only as Agung, 30, from Lombok, Indonesia, is believed to have been murdered by his countryman and fellow plantation worker.

Bintulu district police chief Supt Zailanni Amit said Agung’s body was discovered at 11.08pm.

He said according to a witness, the male suspect had stabbed the deceased in the abdomen with a knife, as he was entering the workers' hostel.

"The suspect is identified only as Sarmin, aged 25, from Indonesia as well. Police are now closing in on the suspect," said Zailanni in a statement.

He said the motive for the murder has yet to be ascertained and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code. -- BERNAMA
