Indian national caught with 10kg ketamine at Kuala Terengganu airport

KUALA TERENGGANU: An Indian national was detained for possession of 10kg of ketamine estimated at RM700,000 yesterday.

The 37-year-old suspect was arrested by the state’s Custom Department enforcement officers as he was collecting his luggage after arriving at the Sultan Mahmud Airport in Kuala Terengganu at 8.55pm.

The department’s director, Aidid Tajuddin, said investigation showed that the suspect had departed from the Bengaluru Airport in India, on Friday and was headed for Kuala Terengganu.

Aidid said the suspect had transited at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport before taking the flight to Kuala Terengganu on the same day.

“The suspect arrived in the state on Friday at 7.30pm, however, he returned for the luggage at the airport on Saturday morning,” he added.

He said the drugs were found hidden in the lower compartment of the bag, which also filled with saris.

“We obtained a 12-day remand order to investigate the suspect under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952,” he told reporters at the Terengganu head office today.
