Kuala Terengganu court evacuated following suspected bomb threat [NSTTV]

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Kuala Terengganu court complex here was vacated earlier following a bomb-like threat when a package was placed in front of the complex's gate.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Mazli Mazlan said they received a report from the security personnel at the complex at 7.30am, informing them of the discovery of the package at 6.45am.

"As a result of the report, a team of police officers from the Kuala Terengganu police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department and the Terengganu police Bomb Disposal Unit rushed to the scene.

"Examination at the site revealed a white package wrapped in A4 paper containing batteries. We believe there might be torchlight components inside the package," he said earlier.

He said they had taken action to dispose of the material believed to have been placed there the previous night and found to have no explosive elements.

Mazli added that the case has been handed over to the Terengganu police headquarters forensic unit for further evaluation, and a thorough inspection of the complex area has been conducted.

"No threatening elements were found at the location, but we will conduct patrols and monitoring there as a precautionary measure," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
