Seven detained for alleged drug trafficking

JOHOR BAHRU: Police detained seven individuals including a foreign woman on suspicion of drug trafficking at three separate locations in Johor Bahru and Muar from April 28 until yesterday.

Johor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) Chief, ACP Lukas Aket said the raids were conducted following a one-month’s intelligence work and public tip-off. He said, also seized were various types of drugs amounting to RM490,000, cash and three cars. “Five local men and a Vietnamese woman were detained in the first raid around 1am, at a house in Pelangi Indah, Johor Bahru, while another man was arrested in front of an entertainment centre in Bandar Muar.

“Among the drugs seized were ecstasy powder (5.4 kg) , Eramin 5 pills (271), heroin (2.8 kg) and ketamin (315.92 g), that were believed to be distributed to entertainment centres,” Lukas told reporters in a press conference here today.

Lukas said also seized was a weighing machine, transparent plastic, aluminium foil, wrapping plastic and a money-counting machine.

The suspects, aged between 25 and 56, tested positive for drugs and four had previous criminal records. Six suspects in the first raid were held for seven days from the date of their arrest on April 28, while another suspect was held under remand for seven days from yesterday until May 7. -- BERNAMA
