MALACCA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a four-day remand order against two top committee members of Masjid Al-Hamideen on suspicion of receiving a RM116,000 bribe over wakaf land.
The suspects, aged 61 and 46, arrived at the Ayer Keroh court complex at 10.40am, accompanied by MACC officers.
The remand order, which begins today, was issued by Malacca magistrate's court assistant registration officer, Mohd Anuar Ostadi
The two men were holding the positions of chairman and secretary of Masjid Al-Hamideen and are suspected of accepting the bribe to dispose of a piece of wakaf land belonging to the mosque, in Kampung Bukit Cina, to a non-Muslim.
The duo were originally summoned to the MACC office in Malacca on Tuesday to have their statements recorded over the case.
They were detained shortly after and will be investigated under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 and Section 405 of the Penal Code.
