T'ganu rounds up 43 illegal immigrants in 'Ops Ikrar'

KEMAMAN: State Immigration Department enforcement officers rounded up 43 illegal immigrants during 'Ops Ikrar' at three separate locations here, yesterday.

Department chief Mohd Muda said eighteen enforcement officers were involved in the seven-hour operation which began at 10am.

He said in the first raid at a construction site near Jalan Jakar Dusun Nyior, Chukai, 35 foreign workers were inspected.

"15 of them, all Indonesians, were rounded up under Section 6(1)(c) and Rules 39(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said today.

Mohd said a local, who is suspected of harbouring them, was summoned to assist the investigation.

He said the team then went to a site at Kampung Binjai and arrested a Myanmar national under Section 6(1)(c) of the same Act.

In the third raid, 27 undocumented Indonesians were arrested at a construction site near Kampung Bukit Mentok.

"11 of them are being investigated under Section 15(1)(c); nine are being probed under Section 6(1)(c); and seven are being scrutinised under Rules 39(b) of the Immigration Act 1059/63," Mohd said, adding that two locals and an Indonesian were also summoned for harbouring them.

All the detainees, aged between 19 and 48, were sent to the Ajil Detention Centre for further action.
