3 cops among 6 remanded for graft involving Melaka massage parlours, gambling dens

PUTRAJAYA: Six men, including three police officers, have been remanded for six days over allegations of bribery at the magistrate’s court here.

The men, aged between 31 and 50, shielded their faces from photographers as they were led inside the courtroom by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers for their remand hearing at about 9.25am.

The remand order, issued by magistrate Muhamad Safuan Azhar, takes effect today and expires on May 22.

They were arrested in Melaka yesterday following simultaneous raids between 9.30am and 9.50pm at several illegal gambling centres and massage parlours in the state.

The three police officers – two assistant superintendents of police (ASPs) and an inspector – are attached to the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters and the Jasin district police headquarters.

The three other remanded men are civilians, one of whom had allegedly acted as the middleman who helped the three officers collect bribes from operators of massage parlours and illegal gambling centres.

They are being investigated under Section 16 and 17 of the MACC Act 2009.
