Police cut power to 5 gambling dens

MELAKA: Police together with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) have cut off five premises believed to be operating as illegal online gambling centres yesterday.

The special operations were carried out between 8.30am to 4pm to cripple the illicit activities, said Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit.

Intelligence report found that all the premises involved were abusing business licences to carry out gambling activities without a licence, he said.

"The police together with TNB cut the electricity supply to five premises in Taman Sin Hoe Bukit Baru, Taman Semabok Perdana, Jalan Bukit Serindit, Plaza Pandan Malim and Taman Rambai Jaya.

"The act of cutting the electricity supply is done in accordance with Section 21A(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 aimed at curbing gambling activities around the state of Melaka," he said.

He gave a stern warning to the premise owners not to misuse their business licence to carry out illegal activities.

"Therefore we hope that the public can continue to channel information related to such activities to the nearest police station or contact the Melaka Tengah police headquarters Hotline at 06-284 2222," he said.
