Sarawak traffic cop remanded five days to assist MACC bribery probe

KUCHING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a traffic policeman yesterday for allegedly accepting bribe amounting to RM4,500.

The 35-year-old policeman, attached with the Kuching district police headquarters, surrendered himself at the MACC headquarters at 10pm last night.

He was then detained under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, which carries the maximum 20 years’ jail and RM10,000 fine or five times the value of the bribe, whichever is higher.

Details surrounding the bribery case was not readily available at Press time.

Clad in an orange-colour lock up T-shirt and a pair of jeans, the policeman appeared calm when he was produced at the Kuching Special Court for Corruption today.

Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong granted the application by MACC prosecuting officer, Katherine Nais, and ordered the suspect to be remanded for five days until this Sunday.
