Foreigner asks Labuan fisherman to pay RM500 debt; is brutally murdered

LABUAN: A 54-year-old local fisherman was arrested in connection with the murder of an Indonesian man at Kg Tanjung Aru here Saturday night.

Yahudin Sahib, 54, is believed to have been murdered over a RM500 debt.

It is learnt that the incident took place at 2pm when Yahudin approached the suspect at his house to ask for the money owed to him, but a scuffle ensued, resulting in the Indonesian sustaining injuries that proved to be fatal.

"Yahudin’s neighbour overheard screams of someone asking for help, and had gone to investigate the cause. The neighbour went to the house and found the deceased lying on the floor," said Labuan police chief Supt Adzhar Othman

The suspect was picked up at the scene the same day.

Following interrogation, police believe the deceased was fatally struck with a hard object.

The suspect has been remanded under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. --BERNAMA
