Match-fixing: Court sets July 11 for re-mention of 2 ex-national footballers' case

SEREMBAN: The Sessions Court here today set July 11 for remention of a graft case involving two former football players for offering a bribe to Malaysian Indian Sports Council-India Football Association of Malaysia (MISC-MIFA).

Judge Fathiyah Idris fixed the date following an application made by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecution officer, Karmila Mokhtar.

Earlier, Karmila had requested the court to adjourn the case following incomplete reports.

On April 28, former national players, Khairul Anuar Baharum, 43, and Public Bank player S G Prem Kumar, 49, claimed trial to two counts of offering bribes to two MISC-MIFA players involving RM20,000.

On the first charge, they were accused of offering RM10,000 to MIFA goalkeeper Mohd Khairul Izzuwan Shaari to fix the outcome of the match, 0-2, between MISC-MIFA and Perak State Development Corporation on April 7, this year.

On the second charge, they were accused of offering RM10,000 to MIFA player S Harivarman for the same purpose.

The offences were allegedly committed at Jalan Andalas 1, Senawang Light Industry Area in Seremban between 9pm and 10pm on March 27.

The accused were charged under Section 16 (b) (A) of the MACC Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24 of the same Act, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of five times the bribe.

Khairul Anuar, popularly known as "Ah Chong”, was represented by counsel Ridha Abdah Subri, and Prem Kumar, by N Yohendra.

The court set bail at RM10,000 each and ordered the accused to surrender their passports to the court and report to the Negeri Sembilan MACC office every month.

Fathiyah also allowed the application made by Yohendra for Prem Kumar to report at the Kuala Lumpur MACC office every month.
