PJ man charged with supporting Islamic State

PETALING JAYA: A factory quality control worker was charged at the magistrate's court here today with two terror-related offences.

Mohd Fairul Azhar Jaafar, 33, was charged with knowingly supporting the Islamic State (IS) terror group at his residence at C-11-8, Mentari Court, Jalan PJS 8/19, Taman Seri Mentari, near here at 2.20pm on May 25.

He was also charged with being in possession of terror-related items in his pen drive at his home, at the same time.

For the first offence, Mohd Fairul was charged under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code which provides for life imprisonment or a jail term of 30 years, or a fine; while for the second offence, he was charged under 130 JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine.

No plea was recorded, however.

Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir fixed Oct 20 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Fazeeda Faik appeared for the prosecution.
